With his family by his side, Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States by Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts, Jr. in Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2009. More than 5,000 men and women in uniform are providing military ceremonial support to the presidential inauguration, a tradition dating back to George Washington’s 1789 inauguration. As anyone who reads my blog knows, I am full-blooded African (now only American), but a considerable percentage of my family is Caucasian. I have Seniors that are White and others that are Black. Remarkably, the Black Seniors have always been more open to the political process. Not that they would vote Republican without prodding, but our deep religious convictions tied us in many ways to the so-called conservative values of the Republican party. I use the term so-called because I do not see a Christian leadership destroying the country of Iraq over the search for weapons of mass destruction that never existed. That administration was not Christian.

I am writing this blog piece because recently two of the White Seniors in my immediate family who are ardent watchers of the Fox News Network and other Republican news outlets shared with me their fear of Barrack Obama. They did not express this fear in 2008, and have not been able to explain why they are suddenly gripped with fear about him. All they have shared is that they do not think he is American enough. This to me is code for “He is Black… OMG!!!!! ” 🙂

PS:In my family, many of my Caucasian relatives often forget that some of us, like me are Black, I think, and so our conversations are very open on racial or such related issues. However, in this case, I do not think they recognize that their inexplicable racial fears were the basis for their remarks.

I engage the older Caucasian Seniors in my family in political discourse and I am fairly certain that someone is engaging in a campaign of calumny to scare these Seniors. The Seniors in question have no communication with each other, and do not speak with each other, yet they shared quite graphically very similar basis and their growing fear of Barack Obama.

I do not watch enough of Fox News to know what they are peddling these days. I do know that a lot of their rhetoric is anti-Obama and extreme, and so it makes me nauseated (Thanks for your silly phrase, Mayor Booker!) :(. As for the Left wing, I find their attacks less vitriolic. Since Keith Oibermann, the angriest man on the Left was fired from MSNBC, it is no longer an angry channel. I enjoy most of their news even Reverend Al who obviously adores Barack Obama and presents the most skewed reporting  on that channel :).

Well, back to the fear issue. I think the reason Fox News is peddling this fear to Seniors is because the two Caucasian Seniors in my family and their friends, all avid watchers of Fox News, are now afraid of Obama! It is absurd. I think that something weird might be going on in a bid to energize them to vote since most Republicans are not enthused about Romney. Since hardly anyone is enthused about Romney and many Republicans privately acknowledge that he would make a horrible President, the Republican Party aka Fox News hope their fear of Obama will drive them to the polls.

I am well aware of America’s despicable racial politics, the racism it has exported world-wide, and its prolific history o racial fear mongering. Being part of a family that contains a massive mix of Black African, bi-racial, Caucasian, conservative, liberal and über conservatives, I know that those of us in the middle are the only group that changes from one election cycle to another. However, in the past, the Seniors in my family and their friends have not expressed this unfounded fear of Obama, and I worry that when he is re-elected, they will be overwhelmed.

On days like this, I wonder what makes a country developed? America might be technologically advanced but it is primitive in terms of “emotional intelligence” and equity. The code words for Obama like Muslim, radical, Socialist and Big Government dude are all scare tactics to frighten the White majority. It is a prevalent practice but it is nonetheless so base and primitive. I do not think any country that still holds on to this sort of mass ignorance and fans fears by promoting Birthers like Trump and other such fear mongers, has a right to describe itself as a true democracy.

Money is buying the 2012 elections, thanks to an activist, far Right wing and Obama hating Supreme Court and their insane “Citizens United” ruling which sold democracy in America to the Billionaires. The bourgeois in America will decide how the proletariat will function. Pathetic!  This is the America, the land of the free??? When race is used in code and hatred of the President is fanned by using divisive terminology and aggressive separatist agendas, American democracy is largely a construct. It is not tangible. My relatives should not be scared by Obama but someone is selling them this fear. And at that age, they are understandably worried and fearful!!! Thanks Fox News!!

Yes, our voices can be heard but by whom? The billionaires have blocked the airwaves with code words of racism and daily promote fear infused politicking. And because the 2012 elections involves a President of Color, in politics, the news and culture has become infused with raw racial animus, virulent and inexplicable hatred and most irrational fear mongering. is this truly political freedom? Is this a true democracy? I think not!

Those who seek to divide America succeed when their antics are not revealed. I wish they would stop this fear mongering and hatred for our President. It is unnecessary and vile!! This an election, and we hope the best man wins. But this race component STINKSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
